Early on he offered up his life
His gaze high, they two started out.
A good man sure needs a good wife. . .

A Tribute to Dr. Hicks
by
Yvonne Hicks Harmon
I don’t have anything significant that others haven’t already said. it’s been over 20yrs since I attended CFC, but I have good memories.
Over the years, Don Hicks was there for family, friends and churches. He ministered to anyone that had a need. God came first in his life immediately followed by love of his wife and family. No matter how much he spread himself out ministering to others, he always had a positive attitude and beautiful smile.
He was truly a blessing to others. My family and I loved him and miss him. He was a wonderful uncle and friend!!
In memory of my Uncle Don Hicks.

As the sun lifted its face above the craggy pikes of the Rocky Mountains, I stood gazing thoughtfully at the recently covered grave of the late Dr. Donald E. Hicks on July 10, 2004. The day before—my 53rd birthday, we had laid to rest the body of a very dear friend of mine at the outskirts of the sleepy little town of Parachute, Colorado.

The college opened in September 1967 in Knightstown, Indiana and closed in May 1987. During its twenty year history, CFC ministered to approximately 900 students, 150 of whom graduated with a four-year bachelor’s degree. The Church of the Bible Covenant established the college to provide a Bible and theological education for women and men who would assume pastoral leadership in the new denomination.
An old rural school building north of Knightstown served as the college’s home for the first five years, 1968-73. In the fall of 1973, the college moved to a new campus on North Fortville Pike north of Greenfield, Indiana. Under the leadership of a Board of Control, the college purchased fourteen acres on the Pike and built five single story brick veneer buildings: a classroom building, administration, cafeteria, a men’s and women’s dorms. Two years later, three additional dormitories were added to provide housing for the growing student body.
Rev. Granville Rogers served as the founding President and Bible instructor. The teaching faculty joining Rev. Rogers included Rev. Dorsey Schenck, Mrs. Granville Rogers, Rev. Jerry Fuller, Mrs. Robert Cheatham, Rev. Vernon Shockley, and Rev. Amos Hann. The first student body consisted of sixteen students, five women and eleven men. Two of these students, Orby “Buddy” Perry and Steve Stalker, graduated in 1970 as members of the first graduating class.
In January 1970, Rev. Donald E. Hicks assumed the presidency and gave the institution valuable and dedicated leadership during the next twelve years. Under his leadership, the college moved to the new Greenfield campus and established itself as the Bible college for the Church of the Bible Covenant. His wife, Gwen, give tirelessly of her energies and wisdom in creating food services and living environment that gave the students a wholesome home away from home.
